Sample Requirements:
- Swab in aerobic transport media;
- Urine in tightly sealed sterile plastic container;
- Tissue in a sterile container with a few drops of sterile saline;
- Fluid in a sterile container;
- Skin scrapes in a sterile container
Turn Around Time:
2 business days for negative results, longer depending on growth
Collection Protocol:
- Refrigerate swab and urine if transport will be delayed over
48 hours. - Refrigerate tissue and fluid; ship on ice.
- Please specify the method of urine collection (free flow,
cystocentesis, catheter). - Indicate the original laboratory report number when
ordering follow-up culture tests on the same source. - Indicate the source of the specimen, clinical history,
antimicrobial therapy, suspected disease.
