The stronghold of the Cairn terrier was the Isle of Skye and the breed was first exhibited in 1909 as Short-haired Skyes. Short-legged, and tenacious little terriers have been known in the Western Highlands and Islands of Scotland for over 500 years.
Though they may be feisty with other dogs, Cairns thrive on human companionship and are happy and outgoing.
The Cairn terrier is an active, and hardy little terrier that is loaded with spunk. He gets by nicely on moderate exercise.
