S101 - Animal DNA Sexing

Description:

Some species of animals are sexually monomorphic, such as hyennas and sloths. This test is performed by the amplification of two genes in a single reaction. Sex is determined by the presence or absence of a PCR product which is generated only from the Y chromosome. The amplification of a DNA fragment found on the X chromosome serves as a control for PCR. Two PCR products indicate the sample was male, and one PCR product indicates that the sample was female.

Sample:

1. Whole blood (3 ml) in a lavender top (EDTA) tube.
2. Dried blood on a filter paper card.
3. Three oral cheek swabs.

Special Handling:

Store samples at 4°C until pick up or shipment.

Test Code:

S101
