C101 Animal DNA Fingerprinting (Typing)
Description:
See "Animal Parentage Testing"
for a more detailed explanation of the technology
behind this test. Identical in technique to the parentage
testing protocol, animal DNA fingerprinting is performed
on only one animal. It provides a permanent, tamper-proof
record of identity for an individual. The DNA fingerprint
obtained from one sample can be compared with a DNA
fingerprint obtained at a later date from a different
sample, allowing for confirmation of identity.
Reasons for DNA fingerprinting (typing):
1.The DNA fingerprinting (typing)
service is a permanent and indelible record
of identification of individual animals.
2.Verifying parentage (see
“Animal Parentage Testing”).
3.Economical consideration:
DNA fingerprinting (typing) can be used to permanently
identify an animal and to assure that its parentage
is correct. This increases its worth and extends
to the assurance of such things as contracts
and insurance policies.
4.Tracing stolen animals.
The DNA sample preparations are also stored
for possible future use, such as genetic testing
for different animal disorders.
