BREED DESCRIPTION
The Irish Setter was a headliner both in the field and on the bench. The Irish Setter became more valued for his
handsome appearance than his field talents. It was due to a few concerned fanciers that the breed has been restored to
its dual role of field dog and show specimen.
The Irish setter is noted for his personality. Typically Irish, he
has a devil-may-care attitude and an undeniable sense of humor.
This is a breed that definitely prefers play to
work. A true Sporting Dog, he loves action and is best suited for suburban or country living where he has lots of safe
room for exercise.
A height of 27 in, 69 cm and weight of 70 lb.
The coat is of moderate length and flat
on all other parts of the body. There's long and silky feathering on the ears, the back of the forelegs and thighs, the
belly, brisket and chest. The tail fringe is long and tapering.
The coat requires frequent brushing. Some
trimming may be necessary to tidy head, throat and feet. The hanging ears should be examined and gently cleaned as
necessary.
