DNA TEST:
Presence of black, gray and brown coat colors, and black and brown nose. A DNA test is available to determine dogs that carry brown and gray.

BREED STANDARDS FOR COAT AND NOSE COLORS:
Recognized Newfoundland colors are black, brown, gray, and white and black. Blacks, browns, and grays may appear as solid colors or solid colors with white at any, some, or all, of the following locations: chin, chest, toes, and tip of tail. Any amount of white found at these locations is typical and is not penalized. Also typical are a tinge of bronze on a black or gray coat and lighter furnishings on a brown or gray coat.
In a few countries, Newfoundland dogs are gray. Recently, a DNA test to distinguish dogs that carry the common gray allele was discovered. The spotted dogs are often called Landseer, after the painter who so often painted this type of Newfoundland. At the present time, a test is not available to distinguish the solid colored dogs that carry spotting from those that do not.

TEST RESULTS:
Test results are usually available in 10 business days from the moment the samples arrive at the laboratory. Test results can be reported by e-mail, fax, or by phone.

CERTIFICATION OF RESULTS:
