CANINE COAT AND NOSE COLOR TEST
Briard

CODE: C128

Briard

BREED STANDARDS FOR COAT & NOSE COLORS:
Briards occur in two basic colors: black and tawny. The gene that controls this difference is K. All Briards are ay/ay at the agouti locus, although the number of black hairs in them varies.

Some Briards have masks, even though they can’t be seen on the black dogs. The dogs with a mask have at least one EM allele. All Briards have black rather than brown nose leather and pads and are B/B.

Some Briards grey with age and some are born grey instead of black. Likewise some of the tawny Briards are lighter than others or lighten with age. DNA tests are not yet available to predict these shades.
