CODE: C128
DNA TEST:
Presence of black, brown (red) and true red coat colors, and black and brown nose
BREED STANDARDS FOR COAT & NOSE COLORS:
Nose color matches the primary color. The Border Collie appears in many colors, with various combinations of patterns and markings. The most common color is black with or without the traditional white blaze, collar, stockings, and tail tip, with or without tan points. However, a variety of primary body colors is permissible. The sole exception is being all white. Solid color, bi-color, tri-color, merle, and sable dogs are judged equally with dogs having traditional markings. Color and markings are always secondary to physical evaluation and gait.

* - Note: the terminology of coat color in Border Collies can be a bit confusing. Many people call brown or liver colored dogs red. True red is less common in this breed, but can occur. Because many Border Collies have been bred for work and agility, the emphasis on particular colors for showing has been less than in some other breed.
