Canine Coat and Nose Color Testing

C128-Canine Coat and Nose Color Test

Presence of black-and-tan and sable colors;
The Belgian Shepherds which are long haired occur in two color varieties, with separate names. The Groenendael are black and the Tervuren are sable colored dogs. Groenendael can be black from the genotype "aa" at the Agouti locus, which is recessive to sable or from another gene with a dominant genotype which we designate as "K". All Tervuren are "kk". Groenendael that have one "K" allele could be black and yet have pups that are either black-and-tan or sable if mated to certain other carriers. Since it is undesirable to have black-and-tan pups which cannot be shown in most countries, DNA testing for the at allele is useful. Groenendael that carry the ay allele may have sable pups which could be registered as Tervuren in some countries. The table below explains the interaction with the "K" locus, but DNA results will be reported for the "A" locus only.

Please select the color of your dog to determine possible genotypes:
Genotype Main Color Nose Color Hidden Color
Kbayay black na sable
Kbayat black na sable, black-and-tan
Kbaya black na sable
Kbatat black na black-and-tan
kkaa black na none
Any single tested allele - $55.00*
Each additional allele - $20.00*
*subject to HST for Canadian residents only.

Note: Mask gene (Em) is considered as an individual test, separate from other alleles in E locus.

To help you to calculate the proper amount, please review the following example:
Testing for 3 alleles - E, B, and D - should be calculated as $55 + $20 + $20 = $95.00.
The price will be automaticaly calculated during the process of ordering a sample collection kit.
The following sample(s) can be submitted for the testing:
1. Blood sample in a lavender top tube.
2. Cheek swabs. Sample collection kit online: Order a Sample Collection Kit
Test results are usually available in 10 Business Days from the moment the samples arrive at the laboratory. Test results can be reported by e-mail, fax, or by phone.
HealthGene will provide a certificate for each test result.
